Airspace Clearance Protocols for Northern Flying Corridors

April 15, 2026 President Office
Airspace Clearance Protocols for Northern Flying Corridors

PHPA President Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah has successfully finalized coordinate clearance agreements with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and regional security forces to establish adventure flying corridors in northern Pakistan.

This protocol maps out designated spatial boxes in Gilgit-Baltistan (Hunza Valley, Eagle's Nest zones) and Swat (Malam Jabba area) where non-motorized free flight is legally authorized. This prevents hazardous crossings with domestic commercial aircraft routes and secures the safety of cross-country paragliders.

Spatial Limits & Altitude Ceilings

All cross-country (XC) pilots must download the airspace layout coordinates and adhere to the following limitations:

  • Ceiling Altitude: The maximum permitted altitude for free flight in the Swat corridor is 12,000 ft ASL. In Hunza, the ceiling is set at 15,000 ft ASL to allow mountain ridge transition.
  • Prohibited Areas: Flying within 10 kilometers of active heliports or civil landing strips is strictly illegal unless coordinate clearance has been granted for specific events.
  • Radio Communication: Pilots undertaking cross-country runs must carry VHF radios tuned to the designated regional emergency frequency.
Legal Compliance: Violating airspace boundaries will result in immediate pilot license suspension and reporting to aviation enforcement departments.

Detailed airspace maps and GPX corridor boundaries are available for download at the PHPA database room.
